The leaves may be dull or glossy but they always
grow in triple clusters. In the fall, the leaves may
change to a pinkish color, and in the summer the
plants have white berries.
Both
poison ivy and poison oak have leaves that grow in
clusters of three, and both plants, as well as poison
sumac, bear white berries in the summertime. Gardeners
should wear gloves and boots to protect themselves from
poison ivy.
Note - Birds are what
spread the seed around. The white berries that
grow on poison ivy are none toxic to birds. As
they fly around and release "bird droppings" they
also spread the poison ivy plant around. Birds
like to drink out of eaves troughs on houses after a
rain and they fly over your roof tops. Check
the end of your eaves trough for any poison ivy
plants. I found one at the end of my spout one
summer.
