First of all, understand what you
have, you will be able to treat it better:
Poison Ivy - The
irritating substance is a toxin called Urushiol, it is a
residue or an oil, which is found in the leaves, stems,
and roots. You have to touch the plant to get it
and almost everyone has a reaction to it, some are more
sensitive then others. Only 1 nanogram (billionth of a
gram) needed to cause rash. An amount the size of
a pin's head can make 500 people itch. Powerful
stuff? How about 1/4 ounce can make the whole
world itch! It has been able to survive in
specimens that are centuries old.
Poison ivy can also be
picked up by touching objects that were exposed to the
toxic sap, such as unwashed gardening tools or boots.
Dogs and cats, while not themselves allergic to poison
plants, can brush up against them and get the sap on
their fur, exposing people who come in contact with
them, (Washing your pet, using rubber gloves, can free
him of the toxin.) In addition, if these plants are
burned, the toxin is released in the air and can be
inhaled with the smoke, causing extreme irritation to
the lungs. Nasty stuff!
Quick Fix:
If you think you might of
touched it under 20 minutes ago scrub with soap, make sure
is is an oil-less soap, brown soap
is better and liquid Dish Soap is best. Then read

shoes with hot water and soap!
